Preschool Igloo

Our milk-jug igloo is a major, periodic project that gets everyone involved!

Church members as well as Preschool families and friends help to collect the 400+ one-gallon plastic bottles needed to construct this play space within our classroom. The construction, which takes about two weeks, is done entirely by adult volunteers and usually under the watchful eyes of the children. Upon completion, the play begins! At night, we sometimes light our igloo from inside, just like the real ice palaces.

In 2001, representatives from Glenwood-Inglewood Company came to celebrate with us and even returned when our igloo 'melted'. When our igloo begins to require more repairs than are practical, we plan a 'Melt-Down' Day. We gather around the structure, talk about all the fun times we had with it, the things we learned and once again thank the volunteers who built it. Then, on a signal, we jump on it! We flop and stomp until every bottle is flattened for recycling! There are lots of pictures and lots of memories!
