Meals on Wheels
Six times a year, we deliver noon meals for a week to homebound people in our neighborhood. If you can drive, if you like to connect with people, if you have a heart for elderly or lonely people, this meaningful ministry can use you.
Our Savior’s Shelter
Every two months, we work at the homeless shelter of our neighboring congregation, Our Savior’s Lutheran, cooking and serving an evening meal. Some of us stay for the night, helping attend to the individuals and families sheltered there.
Food donations
There’s a big bin by the front door of our Education Wing for food donations to the community food shelf. Every time we come to church, we try to remember to bring food. As Christ feeds us in his Meal, so we seek to feed the hungry with food and with justice.
Nickels for Nets
Our Sunday School children have a jar—with a bright green net around it—at the back of the sanctuary. It’s for nickels! Nickels to purchase treated mosquito nets for children in Madagascar, to protect them from getting malaria. We’ve filled the nickel jar many times and purchased dozens of nets through Lutheran World Relief. But the need is great, so we keep bringing Nickels for Nets.
Retirees—ministry to our elders
Once a month, our retirees gather for a program and a potluck lunch. In addition, they take occasional day trips to interesting places, and participate in a weekly Gentle Walking Program in our Gymnasium led by a staff person from the YMCA and open to all.
